Kings Fall in Finale
The Cincinnati Kings closed out their inaugural PDL season yesterday in Toronto losing to the Toronto Lynx 4-0 at Varsity Centre in front of a youth day crowd of over 3,000 fans.
The Kings were coming off a schedule of four games in eight days. With the squad decimated by injuries and missing players, they traveled north with only 12 players able to play, three of them goalkeepers. Many players had to play out of position due to the weakened roster.
Daniel Revivo and Lloyd Grist led the Lynx, who are fighting for a playoff spot. Revivo scored all four goals for Toronto with Grist assisting on the three of them. The first goal fournd the back of the net in the 20th minute off a cross from the left side of the field and shot past goalkeeper Aaron Arndt who could not see the ball through the crowd in front of the goal. The Lynx scored again just one minute later to dampen Kings hopes. The rest of the half was even until the 44th minute when the Lynx scored against the run of play and following several opportunities for the Kings.
The Kings appeared to score in the 61st minute as David Lopez crossed for left midfielder Dustin Downey to head past the goalkeeper but the linesman’s flag went up for offsides. The game flowed back and forth until Revivo scored his fourth and final goal with six minutes remaining.
Kings forward Branden Stelmak and Lynx defender were both sent off with red cards in the 90th minute.
During the second half of the season the Kings fielded what was agreeably the youngest team in the PDL with the average age of the squad a shade under 20 years old.
