Kings Tie, Lose on Weekend
The Kings had a doubleheader weekend with home games on Friday and Saturday night this weekend. The Kings opened the weekend with a 0-0 tie against the Chicago Fire. The Kings best offensive chance came in the first half when Jimmy Cummings’ shot on goal hit the post after being deflected by the Fire goalkeeper. Matt Williams preserved the shutout for the Kings with eight saves, two of which were on breakaway opportunities for the Fire. The defense of Brad Simpson, Tommy Clinest, Seth Eckerlin and Jake Vollmer stifled the Fire’s attack throughout the game.

On Saturday, the Kings continued their struggle to find the back of the net as they missed three opportunities to score in the first half. The Invaders struck on a counterattack in the 43rd minute as Christian Henn netted the goal. The Kings again were unable to score in the second half despite a strong offensive effort that produced three chances that hit the crossbar or post. In the 74th minute, the Invaders again counterattacked with Arran Horton scoring the second goal.
