Kings Defeat Ft. Wayne Fever 3-1
Saturday night saw the suddenly hot Cincinnati Kings defeat the Ft. Wayne Fever for the second time in two weeks 3-1 before a crowd of around 500 fans. The Kings have begun the second half of the season with two win and two ties in four games scoring 6 goals and only allowing two.
The Kings got on the scoreboard in the 37th minute when Jon Sutton took a shot from 30 yards out which the Fever GK could only deflect and Patrick Baxter jumped on the rebound. The Kings had several chances prior to that and only by packing 11 defenders around the penalty area could Ft.Wayne keep them out. The Kings stuck again in the 39th minute when defender Justin Jenkins overlapped right midfielder Matt Bahner and drove a perfect cross in for forward Branden Stelmak to side volley into the net. The halftime score of 2-0 was flattering to the Ft.Wayne team which could not amount any type of attack.
Halftime substitutions saw Aaron Miller and Josh Albers come in and have immediate impacts on the game. Aaron’s patented long throw and tremendous pressure for Kings players in the goalmouth caused an own goal to make it 3-0 in the 55th minute. Only after vast substitutions could Ft.Wayne manage a goal in the dying moments of the game.
Coach Stahl’s comments:
We are playing much better with more confidence and maturity in the second half of the season. The style and composure that we have been preaching the entire season is starting to pay dividends. The defensive back line of goalkeepers Matt Williams, Aaron Arndt and defenders Justin Jenkins, Kyle Segebart, Sulieman Kahn, Seth Eckerlin and Aaron Miller have been solid for the past 6 games and give us a chance to get on the scoreboard first. We are getting better possession and penetrating/switching balls from the midfielders and it is reflected in both the scoreboard and statistical sheets.
Next Game:
The Cincinnati Kings host the Toronto Lynx Friday night at 7:30 at Town and Country. The Lynx defeated the Kings in Toronto last month 2-1 on only three shots on goal.
